THE MOST BEAUTIFUL AND BLUE BEACHES ON MILOS
Milos is a stunningly beautiful island in the Cyclades that is surging in popularity. Milos has been discovered to possess some of the most picturesque beaches in Greece, and quite possibly the whole world! The Cyclades are Greece’s most famous island group, Milos is the seventh largest island in this group. This means there are over seventy beaches so you’ll be spoilt for choice, read on to discover the most beautiful coves and bluest water on Milos Island.
1. Sarakiniko Beach
Sarakiniko Beach captivates travellers with its unique lunar landscape composed of smooth, white volcanic rock formations. The crystal-clear turquoise waters provide a stunning contrast to the brilliant rock faces, creating a surreal landscape. This iconic beach will undeniably take your breath away and you will be back more than once to lounge on the thin stretch of sand or to get an adrenaline rush from cliff jumping!
Development: Sarakiniko is an unorganised area
Distance: 12-minute drive from Plaka and 10 minutes from Adamas
Accessibility: reachable by car and bus routes
2. Tsigardo Beach
Tsigardo Beach is a secluded stretch of sand flanked by dramatic cliffs and bordering beautiful blue water. To reach the beach you will need to climb through a fracture in the cliff face and down two rather precariously perched ladders. Once you reach the beach it is well worth it, Tsigardo offers a serene and undiscovered sense of calm to escape the crowds in Summer. If you are a strong swimmer I highly suggest adventuring around the rock formations on the left of the beach to discover some cool caves, snorkelling, and cliff jumping spots!
Development: Tsigardo is an unorganised area
Distance: 26-minute drive from Plaka and 18 minutes from Adamas
Accessibility: reachable by car (do not need 4WD) and bus routes
3. Tourkothalassa Beach
Tourkothalassa Beach was easily the most breathtaking of all the places I visited on Milos. Tourkothalassa is renowned for its sparkling, crystal-clear water and sandy shores. This hidden paradise is located within spitting distance from the most picturesque fishing village on the island of Mandrakia. Tourkothalassa is the perfect setting for a secluded swim, snorkel, and sunbathe.
Development: Tourkothalassa is an unorganised area but Mandrakia provides food and beverage
Distance: 8-minute drive from Plaka and 9 minutes from Adamas
Accessibility: reachable by car
4. Kleftiko Cove
Once a pirate hideout, this unique cove is located on the southwesternmost tip of the island and is only accessible by boat. The dramatic white rock formations form natural arches that plunge into the turquoise water of the majestic Aegean Sea. Kleftiko’s exclusivity has made it a home for marine life and the underwater scenery is a paradise for snorkelers and divers. The combination of history, secrecy, and natural beauty make Kleftiko Cove a surreal adventure.
Development: Kleftiko is an unorganised area
Distance: 6km
Accessibility: reachable by boat only
5. Papafragas Beach
Papafragas is a beach very similar to Sarakiniko, just a little more dangerous. The beach is technically closed but that doesn’t stop everyone from braving the treacherous trail down to the tiny stretch of sand. The cliffs on either side of this small inlet open into the sea beneath a natural bridge. The deep blue-green water is perfect for spending the day aimlessly floating or exploring the dramatic rock formations that have created impressive arches and caves.
Development: Papafragas is an unorganised area
Distance: 17-minute drive from Plaka and 12 minutes from Adamas
Accessibility: reachable by car and bus routes
6. Plathinea Beach
Plathinea Beach is a large white sandy beach on the northern side of the island. Surrounded by gentle hills and lush green scenery this beach offers a tranquil escape. The calm and shallow waters of Plathinea Beach make it perfect for families, beach games, and watersport activities. This beach offers some of the clearest water on the island and it is also a great spot to watch the sun set.
Development: during Summer one restaurant offers sunbeds and refreshments
Distance: 12-minute drive from Plaka and 18 minutes from Adamas
Accessibility: reachable by car
7. Firopotamos Beach
Firopotamos is the most picturesque spot on Milos with every angle of the cove more beautiful than the next. The beach is flanked by a traditional fishing village, the white sandy beach is sandwiched between the pristine Aegean Sea and colourful symrata. For its Instagram-worthy photo potential and idyllic atmosphere Forpotamos is a must-see!
Development: traditional fisherman’s housing surrounds the beach
Distance: 10-minute drive from Plaka and 13 minutes from Adamas
Accessibility: reachable by car
